Our guide to bralettes vs. traditional bras only helps if you're starting from the right size. Studies consistently show most women wear the wrong bra size, so here's a simple, step-by-step way to measure yourself at home.
Step 1: Measure Your Band Size
Wrap a soft tape measure snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust, keeping the tape level and parallel to the floor. Round to the nearest whole number, this is your band size.
Step 2: Measure Your Bust Size
Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level, while wearing a non-padded bra. Round to the nearest whole number.
Step 3: Calculate Your Cup Size
Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. Each inch of difference corresponds to a cup size (1 inch = A, 2 inches = B, and so on). Combine this with your band size for your full size, for example, 34B.
Step 4: Try It On and Adjust
Sizing varies between brands and styles, so always try a bra on before committing. The band should sit level and snug without riding up, and the cups should fully contain your bust with no spillage or gaping.

Bra Size FAQ
How do I know if my bra size is wrong?
Common signs include straps that dig in or slip, a band that rides up your back, cups that gape or spill over, and the center gore not sitting flat against your chest. Any of these usually means it's time to re-measure.
How often should you measure your bra size?
Re-measure every 6 to 12 months, or after any significant weight change, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, since bra size can shift over time even without noticeable changes elsewhere.
